Surgeon declines post
A Dunedin neurosurgeon has declined an offer by the North Canterbury Hospital Board to set up a regional neurosurgical service at Christchurch Hospital. Mr A/ S: Bishara, one of two- neurosurgeons employed by the Otago Hospital Board in Dunedin, notified the North Canterbury board on Thursday that he was unable to accept the post. The board Advertised widely overseas for a neurosurgeon but received only two replies. An approach was made to Mr Bishara because he was considered to be more suitable than two others who had applied. On Wednesday the health services committee of the board will consider its next move.
“It is important that we make an early appointment to the position/' said the chief executive of the North Canterbury board (Mr R. I. Parker).
