Trust to spend $575,963
The New Zealand Historic Places Trust would spend $575,963 on 29 projects this year, said its director (Mr J. R. S. Daniels). Of that, $488,663 would be for existing projects, two of the most important being the completion of Antrim House, Wellington, to be the trust headquarters, and Highwic, Auckland, an elegant early English-style house. Both should be completed and open before the end of the year.
Continuing projects included further weatherproofing at the Timeball Station, Lyttelton; stabilisation of coke ovens at the Brunner mine, West Coast; ,< the completion of the restoration of the Matanaka farm building complex, Waikouaiti, Otago; further work on Hayes’ engineering works, Central Otago; the restoration at Clark’s flour mill, Maheno, North Otago; and the resiting and restoration of the Timaru lighthouse.
