Top referee steps down
The position of top rugby league referee in Canterburywill be vacant next season because the . present incumbent, Mr Don Wilson, has decided to step down for an indefinite period. -.
Mr Wilson, who was recognised among the highestgraded officials in this country by his appointment to the match between Australia and a New Zealand XIII in June, will concentrate on administration next year. He said' last evening that he felt he: could not do justice to the dual roles of refereeing and- reprsenting the Canterbury referees’ association on the provincial board of control. ■ “I made up my mind to have a break from one of the other,”. Mr Wilson said. He intends to take a particular interest in the grading? and elevation of referees, in the grades below premier.As for the future, Mr Wilson is. leaving his options open as to whether. he returns in 1982.
