‘Princess’ at festival
NZPA London “Death of a Princess” the television film the Broadcasting Corporation decided New Zealanders should not see, has been shown at the Edinburgh television festival. The British writer, John Mortimer, commenting on the film, a dramatised account of events leading up to the execution of a Saudi Arabian princess and her commoner lover in 1979, that critics wh.o had denounced it would have had a field day with Shakespeare’s “Richard III.”
“ ‘Richard Hl’ mixed history and invention arid displayed a physically handicapped member of the royal household in an unfavourable light, and no doubt caused serious offence to the Plantaganet family,” Mr Mortimer said.
