$1M for coal investigation
PA Wellington A $1 million investigation programme will be made into the lignite coal deposits in Southland and Central Otago with funds provided by the Liquid Fuels Trust Board. The Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) says that the programme would aim to provide information on the quality, quantity, and mining potential of the lignites and to assess mining costs. The three Central Otago deposits, known as Roxburgh, Home Hills, and Hawkdun, wilt be inA'estigated first and the programme will then move to Eastern Soutliland, Mr Birch said the in-
