Milestone for telex
Today, New Zealand will have used’ the telex communication .system for 20 years, according to the Act-' ing Christchurch Chief Postmaster (Mr A. McKenzie). The Teleprinter Exchange Service began with 16 subscribers, and was a manually operated service to overseas destinations. Inland facilities were added in 1964, with 150
subscribers. Today there are more ■ than. 3000 using the network, and several hundred casual users taking/advantage of public telex facilities offered by-the Post Office. More than 150 countries can now be reached directly through telex, without thq . use: Of ‘ ain operator. • !
