Man ordered to avoid woman
Bail was allowed a young man, provided he stayed away from the complainant, when he appeared in the District Court on Saturday bn a charge of assaulting a female.
Te Kainga Toko, aged’2l. a truck driver, was accused of assaulting Maria Albert on Friday evening. The duty solicitor (Mr G. K. Pankhurst) said Toko would stay at another address, so that he would not worry Miss Albert. He was remanded to Thursday on bail of $5OO. . -.-- •
John Desmond Smitheram, aged 21, a council' worker, was charged with threaten-
ing to kill Jerome Lawrence Hol on Friday night. _ He was remanded without plea, released on $5OO bail with a similar surety, and ordered to report daily to the police. • . Joseph Lane Ruka, aged 29, a timber contractor, was .charged with attempted burglary of the Tai Tapu Golf Club on Friday night. Detective Sergeant M. E. Wright opposed bail. The application was-- heard in chambers. Ruka was remand, ed in custody to Thursday. The cases were heard by Mr G.. B. Muir and Mrs J. Mclver,’ Justices of the Peace.
