Police ‘not involved’
; All Stars of Invercargill and Kaikorai of Dunedin were the two rugby teams complained of for their alleged misbehaviour on the Southerner express on Friday evening, Sergeant N. J. Birse said on Saturday.
He released ■ the ’ team names' to dispel rumours that police teams were involved in the incident which saw'police board the train three times between Timaru and Christchurch, where the train arrived 75 minutes late. - . - —■-. ■ .■ . He said that police found no-one in a drunken condi-tion-and had no damage , reported to them. Therefore, (no offence notices had been ifiled or arrests made.

An investigation will be made today into the alleged bad behaviour of the ■ two rugby teams on board the Southerner. :’><
; “We are going to have discussions with: the police about it and get information to see which team caused i the trouble, the Railways ; district traffic manager in : Christchurch (Mr M. C. Hudson) said last evening. “Then we may go to the team to recover the costs of any damage.” The arrival of the Southi erner at Christchurch had been delayed an hour and 15 minutes, and the emergency • brake had been applied for ■ino reason, Mr Hudson said. ,
