Canty fencers placed
Canterbury University, fencers had cause to be cons! tented with their performances at the national umver-1 sities tournament held at Hamilton. Jane Lindsay won the women’s foil, beating Fiona Lotham and Diana Prouss, (both Auckland) for topi placing. Chris Nokes was! the runner-up to a New Zea-| land representative, Pete Osvath in the men’s foil. Grant Tweddle was third.
Nokes’s controlled precision gained him the Hungarian Fencers Trophy for style and a certain place in the 1981 New Zealand Universities team that will meet its touring Australian counterpart Canterbury, unable to field a full team, could not match Victoria and Auckland in the team foil, epee and sabre events, being .third in all three weapons.
