Claiming races to be introduced in N.Z.
Claiming races and new rates for driving fees have been approved by the executive of the New Zealand Trotting Conference. Final regulations concerning claiming races, based on the system used successfully in the United States and Canada, will be drafted next month. The claiming conditions and stakes rates will be
set by the individual clubs, and the races will be penalty bearing. There will be no class limit for the claimer, any horse being eligible. Horses entered for a
$lO,OOO claiming race can be claimed for that figure by anyone, regardless of where they finish. The winning stake, however, is retained by the original owners

regulations to-be reviewed : in June of each year. • Drivers will also be paid an extra-$1 for their services -at trials,, the amount increasing from $2 to $3.
