Sir, —• My initial reaction to Vicki Furey’s article oh
the Eatons’ friendship club (“The Press,” August 27) was concern that consumerism with its essential advertising includes the ' acquisition of human persons. Viewed however, in the context of the reality of Philippines society, the denial and abuse of human rights by a repressive martial law ( exportation could appear an attractive alternative. The Philippines' domestic forces of oppression and . ex* .ploitation are reinforced by international support. To what degree is New Zealand involved? — Yours, etc., COLLEEN COSTELLO.
