'Mini-Watergate’ row
NZPA Wellington The Fitzgerald land loan row has developed into a mini-Watergate scandal, Mr G. W. R 1 < Palmer (Lab., Christchurch Central) has said in Parliament. - He compared it with the fall of President Nixon when attacking the Minister of Lands (Mr V.' $. Young) and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Maclntyre) for refusing to answer questipns In Parliament about 'a Marginal
Lands Board loan to Mr and Mrs J. M. Fitzgerald. The Ministers have consistently fended off recent Opposition questions about the loan row, saying that such questions are matters for a Government-established commission of inqury to decide. “We have here a mini-: Watergate — a pattern of leaks followed by the Government’s efforts to cover up, leading inexorably to the law courts,” Mr Palmer said.
