Rights of patients
A Patients’ Rights Group has -been formed in Christchurch to establish ■better links between patients' and the medical ■system. ■ The group aims to encourage patients to be aware of their rights as individuals, to help them understand their conditions and treatment, and to direct any complaints they might have to the appropriate quarter. “It is the ultimate intention of the Patients' Rights Group that' every patient be treated with
care and respect irrespective of sex or race, in the private and public sector,” said the group’s publicity officer, Mrs Felicity Paer- . ata. “Because this care and respect is noticeably lacking in a significant number of doctor-patient relationships, the need for such a group has arisen.” The group will hold a public meeting at the Arts Centre on September 29 at which candidates for the North Canterbury Hospital Board elections will be asked to give their views.
