NZPA-Reuter New York The top seeds, Bjorn Borg, of Sweden, and Tracy Austin, of the United States, have advanced to the third round of the United States Open tennis championships. Borg, seeking his first Open title, beat the American power-hitter, John Sadri, 7-5, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, while Austin, the defending champion, crushed the veteran, Rosie Casals, of the United States, 6-0, 6-0.
The 23-year-old Sadri played the five-time Wimbledon champion on even terms over the first 10 games, as both players held service. But then Borg broke Sadri’s awesome serve, and served out at love for the first set. . Sadri battled back to take the third set, but then Borg applied more pressure in the ensuing set to take the match easily.
