Kirkness wins title
Brian Kirkness defended his Canterbury open billiards title at the week-end, beating the consistent Ken Giles, 555-460, in the final. In the semi-finals, Kirkness eliminated his arch rival, Dave Meredith, but only had 20 points to spare at the finish after leading 250-12 at one stage. Meredith had beaten Kirkness an the provincial final. In the other semi-final, Giles comfortably defeated Bob Karaitiana, 493-365.
