Japan flights packed

PA Auckland The .Japan . Air Litre is having such a "miraculous success” with its new TokyoAuckland sendee that it will use wide-ibodied jets in October.

The company had expected the new service to be popular with Japanese tourists but the demand has far outstripped expectations. The twice-weekly service began on July 5 using the 144-seat DCB aircraft, but now the company has received the New - Zealand Government’s approval to use either the 280-seat DCIO or the almost 400-seat Boeing 747 on seven of the nine October services. -.., The actual aircraft used will depend on availability. It was likely that the Tokyo - Auckland service would become bigger than the 10-year-old Tokyo-Syd-ney service which had reached three DCIO flights a week, said J.A.L.’s deputy regional manager (Mr M. I. F. Johnson) yesterday. He said that flights were full until December and advance bookings for January, February, and March were up to 78 per cent. Air New Zealand, with its one DCB flight a week to Tokyo, is fully booked for the next four months. It is sticking with the DCB for the present because of the demands the high summer Season ■ will make on its DClOs elsewhere.
