Yacht tragedy closed
The four crew members in the missing Auckland yacht Smackwater Jack died by drowning when the yacht foundered in a storm, the Auckland Coroner (Mr A.' D. Copeland) has found. Paul Darcy Whiting, aged 28, his wife, Alison Elizabeth Whiting, aged 26, and John Robert Sug-
den, aged 24, all of Auckland, and John Scott Coombes, aged 24, of Hawaii, were on board the yacht when the storm hit. The Smackwater Jack was taking part in the Ho-bart-Auckland race, and was last heard from at 10 p.m. on January 9, when she reported being hove to in 60rknot winds
