Aramoana to be laid up

■ PA Wellington The Cook Strait ferry Aramoana would definitely be laid up until early December, said the Deputy General Manager of Railways, (Mr'G. Purdy) yesterday. He was reacting to a report from Auckland from the national secretary of the Cooks and Steward’s Union (Mr D. Graham) that the alternative, a reduced frequency of sailings, was riot acceptable to most of his members. The rail ferry Aramoana was taken off the interisland run when she berthed in Wellington at 2 a.m. on Wednesday but a decision on whether she would remain ’in port, laid up, depended on the outcome of cooks and stewards’ membership meetings in Wellington, Lyttelton and Auckland this week.
