Maths and segregation

Sir, — The correspondence on maths and segregation interests me.- I attended a sole charge country primary school which had •’ always been staffed by one mature woman teacher until my husband took over as the first male teacher amid much conjecture as to how he would shape up. I had by then left school,, having passed my proficiency examinations but my two- sisters and one brother were still at school. While I was .in the sixth standard (Form 2) the very strict teacher we had was pressed for time with so many classes to teach, so that she entrusted me to take my own class for maths, mainly mental arithmetic. There was another girl in my class and two boys, so I wonder what the present critics would have thought of that- situation. —• Yours, etc.,
