Important fisheries study
Wellington reporter The effects of flow rates and patterns on' fish numbers and distribution in the Rakaia and Hurunui Rivers are being studied by the Ministry of Agriculture and 1 Isheries. There will also be a study on the likely impacts on fish of modifications to the Waitaki River. The continuing demands for fresh water for power generation, irrigation, and other industrial uses, imposed considerable stress on freshwater fisheries, said the Ministry’s' annual report to Parliament. Because so many New Zealand rivers were to be modified, a national survey had been set up to identify those rivers of particular value for angling and general recreation.
