Layoffs ‘not withdrawal’
PA Wellington The dismissal of 20 staff members at Bendon Berlei’s Wairoa factory was not a complete withdrawal from bra and panty manufacture but was a scaling down, said a company spokesman in Auckland last evening. The company had announ : ced earlier in the day that 20 staff inembers at the Wairoa factory would be laid off. The firm’s operation director, Mr Murray Rae, blamed over-production since April and a “fickle market.”
