Sex education
Sir, — I am a father of a six-year-old girl and have been following with concern the media’s reaction to the tragic murder in Auckland last week. A number of professional people have been making the assumption that sex education in schools would go a long way to solving the problem of violent sexual assaults on women and, small girls. My immediate reaction .was, .why not men . and little boys? I jam 100 per cent in favour of sex education in schools, polytechnics, universities, Sunday schools, etc., etc. . . . But, have we not missed something? Surely, our society’s whole attitude towards the female sex must be questioned. One only has to look at the advertising media to see the incredible exploitation of. the. female body in selling commercial products. This degradation of ■women and girls must continually expose them to the dangers of being mistreated and abused both mentally and physically by males.— Yours, etc.,. TOM KENNEDY. .
