Canada visit theme
NZPA Correspondent . Washington The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys)' yesterday wound up. a 10-day visit to Canada in which he appealed for “a robust, mutually beneficial and expanding partnership” between the two countries.
He summed up the theme of his trip — the first big visit by a senior New Zealand Minister to Canada for 11 years — in his final speech, to the Toronto Rotary Club. “We have only scratched the surface of what can be a much more rewarding, more enterprising, more co-oper-ative relationship in the future than the comfortable and perhaps complacent relationship we have shared in the past,” he said. “I believe there is real value for all of us in working more closely with those we know, whith those we understand, and those whom history shows we can rely upon.” Mr Taiboys, who visited five provinces during his tour will leave Canada today for New York where he will address a special economic session of the United Nations General Assembly. |
