‘Invalidated’ meeting
PA ' Auckland Another selection meeting is likely to be held by the Hobson branch of the National Party in Remuera after allegations by the sitting member, Mr D. A. Highet, that a meeting last week was stacked against him.
The meeting was held to select 11 delegates from the Hobson branch to attend next month’s selection meeting to choose the party’s General Election candidate for Remuera.
Mr Highet, who is Minister of Internal Affairs, said that nine of the 11 new delegates supported Mr D. Graham and that four of them had been party members for less than 48 hours.
“The meeting will be invalidated. The chairman cannot take the risk of the selection meeting going ahead and then being challenged,” Mr Highet said.
