Candidate hacks S.A. rugby tour
PA Auckland The Social Credit candi= date for the East Coast Bays by-election, Mr Garry Knapp, has come out in favour oPa South African rugby tour of New Zealand; In a statement critical of both the Government and the Opposition, he said politicians should be prepared to put their money where their mouths were. “It is blatant expediency for those who govern this country to respond to external pressure in the sports arena, yet continue to condone contact in all
other areas of commerce with offending nations,” he said. Referring to the possibility of a South African rugby tour in New Zealand he commented: "If the Rugby Union decides to invite a South African rugby team here, taking into consideration present Government attitudes, and if that inviation is accepted, then I personally would wish them a successful tour. “The resulting good will and communication between people of different cultures and beliefs can only be beneficial,” he said.
