Alleged plotters shot
NZPA-Reuter Teheran Fifteen men have been executed in .Teheran’s Evin Prison on charges connected with an alleged plot to overthrow Iran’s Islamic Government last month, the State Radio has reported. They included Major-Gen-eral Said Mehdiyun, identified as the leader of the conspiracy. He was Iran’s Air Force chief for a few days after last year’s victorious Islamic revolution.
A total of 64 people have now been executed in connection with the alleged plot, said by the Government' to have been aimed at bringing to power Shapur Bakhtiar, the late Shah’s last Prime Minister who is living in exile in Paris. Those shot this week included a colonel,, a captain, a lieutenant, two warrant officers of a parachute regiment and an army private. The radio said MajorGeneral Mehdiyun was also charged with misuse of property and illicit sex with several women.
