Kanga’s Lad works brilliantly
Special correspondent Hastings Kanga’s Lad showed tremendous speed when running 600 m on the Hastings Track yesterday morning. Fast work was carried out on the plough (dead) and next to the outside fence on the No. 1 grass (soft). Kanga’s Lad was rounding off his preparations for Saturday's $15,000 Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa. The big bay strode over 600 m in a brilliant 36.55. This time was over a second faster than
any other horse clocked over the same distance. Drum was let run along over 600 m, with Contestant, and they recorded a good 38s. Drum has been in work for six weeks now and looks very well. The trainer Don Sellwood is leaving his options open regarding an Australian trip for the horse. Fix and Dish were given an easy 600 m on the No.l grass in 40s. They are coming to hand nicely for trainer Mike Donoghue.
