Aquajet looks set for bold effort
Special Correspondent Palmerston North Aquajet looked a fit horse in training at Awapuni yesterday morning and he' appears in top order for his clash with Pene Royal and Bay Port in the Broadlands Steeplechase • at New Plymouth on Saturday. Aquajet has had mixed fortune over fences, although he could not have been more impressive in his last start winning run at Levin where he scored easily. Stephen Gillies will again ride Aquajet. He was aboard the horse in training yester-
day and sent Aquajet about 2000 m on the course proper: He was timed from the 1200 m in Imin 27.55, the final 600 m in 425. He- has thrived since Levin and with his pace on the flat he should keep reasonably handy to the tearaway topweight Bay Port. Piu’s Pride is another local who looks ready to run well at Taranaki. She ran two good races at Hastings and has trained on well since. Paul Goss will ride Piu’s Pride in the Bell Block Handicap and the combination should figure prominently..
