1080 laid
Sir, — John Tweedie (August 13) has every right to be concerned about the use of 1080 poison in >the Waimairi County Council’s nursery, and I - would suspect that Mr Rich’s reply will do nothing to put his fears at rest. Mr Rich’s statement that “other methods of pest control have proved unsuccessful,” sounds slightly ridiculous. If the area in question is only two acres then you could probably carry out adequate pest control with a big stick. The pest destruction boards want to introduce myxomatosis as a form of pest control, so the statements that “traps are inhumane” and “public safety” ring somewhat hollow. 1080 poison is dangerous and has no place in New Zealand. — Yours, etc., LAURIE COLLINS. August 13, 1980.
