Rape-charge trial
Andrew Norman Leonard, aged 23, a pipe layer, was committed to the High Court for trial on a charge of rape after a depositions hearing in the District Court yesterday. Leonard also appeared on one charge of indecent assault. Both charges related to incidents in Addington on July 12 this year. The charges were laid indictably.
A further charge against Leonard, of driving a vehicle while incapable of doing so, on July 16, was remanded to
the District Court on Augusi 28.
The defendant, represented by Mr D. J. R. Holdemess, was alleged to have raped a 37-year-old mother of six children, behind the Lion Tavern, in Lincoln Road, on that date.
Messrs M. W. Burbery and V. C. Empson, Justices of Peace, set a bail reporting date of September 8 on the indictable charges. Leonard declined to plea, and bail of $3OOO was renewed.
