Lime spill kills man
PA Invercargill The manager of a new limworks near Winton died yesterday after being buried for about five minutes in a hopper of lime. He was John Denton-Hogg, aged 38.
Mr Denton-Hogg was trying to clear a blockage in a bin at the Snowdrift Lime Company’s works at Lady Barkly when he was suddenly buried in about a metre of lime. Recent damage to the ropf of the works apparently had made the lime damp, preventing its flowing. into a chute used for filling bags. Mr Denton-Hogg was prodding, at the lime when it gave way.
