Preservation for hunting
Sir, — An example of the deerstalkers putting their desire for hunting before the welfare of our native flora and fauna was shown recently when they suggested a recreational hunting area for land including the Upper Hope, an area previously designated as a biological area under the Lake Sumner Forest Park management plan, after surveys that revealed outstanding native wildlife and botanic values. That the Minister of Forests, Mr Venn Young, accepts the deerstalkers’ recommendations makes a mockery of the good work previously done by the service’s survey teams and researchers and shows just how there is “no hope” for adequate nature preservation under the Forest Park system. — Yours, etc.,
B. A. CALDER. August 11, 1980.
