Electricity charges
Sir, — The Aranui sisters’ stand on electricity charges is courageous. Such an example is representative of wide public Christchurch feeling. Like many friends I wish that I was more courageous and that we all cared enough just a little more to reflect that people today are suffering the stress and agonies of the 30s again. What hurts me more perhaps is that working people, the great mass of us, are powerless and that we are forced to seek extremes because of central Government’s clout and South Island prejudice, and local government’s meekness. Political ploys punish people. — Yours, etc.,
GRAEME STANLEY. August 12, 1980.
