Burden on nurses
Sir,.— With reference to Sandra Legge’s letter (August Tl), may I urge Nurses’ Union, members : (through courtesy of-your column) to support my tabled notice of motion ' due for discussion Monday, . August 18, in Christchurch. I wish to emphasise; .. yet again, the importance of- nurses being notified in advance of- proposed changes in hospital board policy as it so obviously . . affects . directly, patient care, 'and nurses’ health and welfare. Nurses, and particularly experienced midwives, should have a
strong and influential voice within New Zealand and not opt out of their professional responsibilities to their patients to the extent now where a non-professional, such as Sandra Legge, has obviously been forced into the situation of endeavouring to protect women in Christchurch from exploitation by both obstetricians and hospital boards. This situation would not be tolerated in a civilised country. — Yours, etc., NESSIE VIAL, Ashburton. August T2, 1980.
