PA Wellington : The Minister of Internal i Affairs (Mr Highet) told ; Parliament yesterday that ; the rolls for the coming ! local body elections would i close at 4 p.m. on Septem- ' ber 12.
Mr Highet said when the House sat at 2.30 p.m. that the closing date had inadvertently been given earlier as September 5. The reports of the Licensing Control Commission, Ashburton Licensing Trust, and the Council for Recreation and Sport were tabled. Members ■ gave three notices of motion. Minis-, ters answered 20 ques-, tions.
The Lands Tax Annual Bill, Income Tax Annual Bill, Income Tax Amendment Bill, and Inland Revenue Department: Amendment Bill were introduced and given first readings. The Inland Revenue De-, partment Amendment Bill was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. Members debated answers to Ministerial questions. The Petroleum Amendment Bill was reported back from the Commerce and Energy Committee without amendment, when the Government won a division, 41-30. The debate on the ret porting back of the Reserves Amendment Bill from the Lands and Agricultural Select Committee was interrupted when the House adjourned at 6.30 p.m. to enable members to attend a reception at Govment House.
