Manawatu convincing

PA Dunedin Manawatu powered its way tp a four-try win over Otago in sticky conditions at Carisbrook yesterday. The Manawatu pack provided a steady flow of. good possession in the second half to enable it to win the match, 25-6, and take a clear lead in the national championship. The half-time score was 13-3. -

Jim Bryson, in only his second game for ■ Manawatu, led the way with two. tries on the left wing. The second of Bryson’s tries was the culmination of a move which swept the length of the field and broke the. back of .an Otago side which had been hot on,attack for almost 10 minutes. f : ■ <

The Manawatu loose trio of Geoff Grant, Terry Sole and Geoff Old dominated the loose play, while Frank Oliver and Roy Gaskin took charge in the mauls. Frank Oliver had a typical hard-driving game, .but had difficulty overcoming his younger-brother, Paul, in the line-outs- in the first half. Ken Bloxham, the All Black hooker in Fiji, gave a tigerish display for Otago while the No. 8, Wayne Graham, was perhaps the best forward, on the field. Scorers.—

Manawatu: Jim Bryson 2, Doug Rollerson, Mark Donaldson tries; Rollerson three conversions and one penalty goal. Otago:. Dave Halligan a penalty goal, Paul Turner a penalty goal. - * ?
