Obituary Mr W. D. Williams

The general manager of Dominion Breweries, Ltd, Auckland, has died after a long illness.. He was 60. Mr Williams had worked for Dominion Breweries since 1935, when he left school. From office boy he rose to become assistant to the managing director, and in 1977 he was appointed general manager. He was also a director of the company. The only interruption to his service to the company Was in Wbrld War II when he served in the 25th Battalion as a corporal. He was captured and spent three years as a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany. The chairman and managing director of Dominion Breweries (Sir Henry Kelliher) paid tribute to

the “very significant contribution” made by Mr Williams to the progress and development of Dominion Breweries. “Personally, I feel his ■ loss very deeply, as a valued colleague and friend, and his passing is a tremendous loss to the brewindustry,” said Sir Henry. At the time of his - death, Mr Williams repre- , seated the company on various trade ■ organisations, was a director of a'•numb e r? o f i companies in the D.R group, a trustee of the Kelliher Charitable Trust, and a director of McWilliams Wines, Ltd, and the New Zealand Distillery Company, Ltd. i He is survived by his ' wife, a son,- and two daughters. ;■
