Harbour board gets committee seat

After months cf seeking representation on the Canterbury United Council, the Lyttelton Harbour Board has finally been told by the council that one of Its representatives may attend regional planning committee meetings. The board’s representative, Captain A. R. Champion, will only have speaking rights at the committee meetings, not voting rights. Some board members have objected to this. They believe that the board’s representative should have voting rights as well, and the board has agreed to give the non-voting representation a three-month trial before deciding whether to press for a vote on the planning body. The council also agreed to hold special meetings with the board on matters of particular concern when they arise and has granted the board membership on the techcnical liaison committee.
