Bank staff oppose trading-hours move

About 600 members of the Bank Officers’ Union in Christchurch voted unanimously in favour of support for the union .to oppose extended shop-trading and banking hours, when they attended a stop-work meeting in Christchurch yesterday. Seven t y-eight Timaru members attended a similar meeting on Monday and also voted unanimously, on the two motions.

The first motion called on • the Government to withdraw the Shop Trading Hours Bill and support the union’s-’ opposition to it. The second opposed any extension to banking hours and instructed the union to call stop-work meetings if any bank attempted to extend the hours. At Auckland yesterday about 1000 union members met and supported both motions.
