NZPA-Reuter Dover, England An Australian businessman, Des Renford, aged 52, has equalled the record for the greatest number of successful English Channel swims. He swam from Dover’s
Shakespeare Beach to Cap Gris Nez in France in just under 15 hours to complete his seventeenth crossing. But as Renford neared the French coast his rival, Englishman Mike Read, was setting out from England in a bid to stretch his tally of successful swims to 18.
