Air pollution

Sir, — I assure Mr Neary (August 8) that my objection to the dogmatic attitude of the Clean Air Society is not new but of long standing. And I think “dogmatic” is the correct word: the Clean Air Society has surely raised their detestation of the domestic open fire to the dignity of an article of faith. Mr Neary mentions “smoke” pollution, the existence of which I have nowhere denied. But all kinds of smoke, or only coal smoke? If 'all kinds then, to be consistent, the society should press for the abolition of all sources of smoke pollution. — Yours, etc., E. DAY. August 11, 1980.
