South Africa and sport

Sir, —As in previous correspondence on this matter in these columns, John Leslie (August 6) - has ignored the very existence of non-racial South African sports groups. He makes great play of his three visits to South Africa and the various ethnic sports leaders quoted in Bryan Wilson’s book. My charge did not concern them. It was that if the non-racial sports groups headed by. the South African Council on Sport (not the ethnic groups) were not represented in the book in a proportion similar to that of the ' Government-backed racial and “multi-racial” groups then, the book was ■ not unbiased, as claimed by Mr Leslie. One wonders; how many of the 1J million nonracial sports players Mr Leslie made a point of talking with on his visits.— Yours, etc., A. J. CAMPBELL. August 6,1980.
