Blitz counts
About five times more motorists than usual have been stopped by the Ministry' of Transport round Christchurch in a blitz on speeding, according to the Ministry. A total of 508 motorists was issued with tickets or given verbal warnings in the week to Sunday night. The blitz will end on August 16. The Chief Traffic Officer for Christchurch, Mr R. \V. Fox, said yesterday ' that
about 100 motorists a week were usually stopped for speeding.
Microwave detectors are being .used for the first time on unmarked patrol car's during the national campaign. ' ' The Ministry said that inChristchurch unmarked cars' had . stopped 230 motorists and standard patrol cars 278, All but two of the motorists had been .stopped in areas governed by the 50km/h speed limit.
