Firemen mop up chemical spillage
Firemen had to wear breathing apparatus and fully protective Delta suits to deal with a chemical spillage at the Sockbum Railway Station in Alloy Street yesterday morning. The station was cleared about 10.20 a.m. after Peltex, a chemical fluid used in-trie tanning of hides, had -been found to have leaked from containers .in cardboard cartons. damaged social facilities at the Canterbury Aero Club at Christchurch Airport about ll_p.m. on Sunday. . The fire destroyed the kit-chen-bar area and, damaged new furniture and carpets in the main lounge.
