Campaign to end measles
An immunisation programme in Christchurch schools will start soon as part of the Health Department’s plan to stamp out measles in New Zealand by 1983.
The department believes that up to a third of young school-age children have not been immunised against measles, diptheria, whooping cough, and poliomyelitis. Public health nurses are
checking through all school records to find . children who are yet to be immunised.
The Deputy Medical Officer of Health in Christchurch .(Dr M. A. Briesemann) said yesterday that many' parents had failed to have their children immunised when they were babies. Once they went to school it was vital for them to be immunised.
