Rallysprint win to B. Walker
The u p-a n d-coming Christchurch driver, Brian Walker, won the South Island .round of the Shell Super Plusrallysprint series in Dunedin 6ft Saturday. , ,
Walker almost had to pull out of the event, run over a tricky I.Bkm road hear Dunedin, when he lost the front brake-pads of his Aero Ladders Escort RSIBOO on a practice run; but a frantic search of the road for the pads proved successful and he just made the start-line in time for his first rah.
Two other Christchurch drivers, Trevor Crowe (Govan Motors Avenger V 8) and Ken McDonald (Flame Safe Escort RS1800), took second and third places, to make it a clean sweep for
Canterbury in the event', which was the southern qualifying round for the international Super Plus rallysprint to be staged in Auckland later this year. Next were Barry Robinson (Gore, Viva), Trevor Parmenter (Timaru, Datsun 1800 turbo) and Mike Small (Timaru, Escort rotaty). Another Christchurch driver, John Sergei, finished ninth in his Escort, just failing to gain a subsidy towards going to Auckland for the final.
Bruce Mclnally, of Dunedin, made it into the final eight: but then wrecked his Mazda RX3 when he rolled trying to get into the final four.
