Three New Zealanders , finished -within the top 15 placings; from an. original entry.of 450 competitors, at the world ’ Laser class yachting championship at Kingston, Canada,, yesterday.: John Cutler, < from Auckland, sailed magnificently to finish third, just four points, from the over-all winner, Ed Baird (United States). Baird conceded 37 . points, the runner-up, a Brazilian 40.75, and Cutler 41. : The second-best New Zealander was the 18-year-old Christchurch college student,
Philip, Penney, who was thirteenth, one place behind Larry Lemioux, the Canadian who was- very ■ prominent in the world Finn series at Auckland . last summer.. = . '
Russell Cbutts, of Auckland’ was, fifteenth,- Penney had. 102- penalty points and Cbutts. 105.-73. The result was an outstanding achievement by the young New Zealand squad, and underlines the depth of talent in monotype yachting in this country.
