Cook pipes burst
'*■ Jack Frost’s icy fingers have frozen and burst the water pipes of the Tourist Hotel ' Corporation's 20 chalets in - the Mount Cook village. The 20 economy-priced, family chalets are closed for repairs . but will reopen in time for the school holidays, according f to a duty manager at the Hermitage (Mr R’. Gordon). The pipes had burst two or three weeks ago, but because the motels offered the same service, though at a higher price, there had been no hurfy to have them fixed at overtime rates, Mr Gordon said.
However, those with chalet bookings had been accommodated in the motels at chalet rates.
Holiday bookings for the chalets were being accepted as usual, and five days of the holidays were already fully booked. However, there was the alternative of motel
accommodation as well as the Hermitage and Glencoe in the T.H.C. complex. There was also the liklihood of cancellations, Mr Gordon said.
