Men further remanded
Three men who face charges relating to the theft and receiving of articles used at funerals were further remanded without pleas to August 20 in the District Court yesterday. Two of the charges relate to receiving ' the articles, to a total value of. $2844, laid against .two. of the men, and one of’ theft as a servant against the third. The alleged offences were) said :• to have occurred be-1 tw°en June 23 and July 31. At the request of .Mr S. G. Erber, acting on behalf of Mr C. D. Eason, each of the; defendants, aged 33, 26, and 44, was granted continued interim suppression of their names and the, names of the firms involved. Bail of $lOOO, granted earlier, was also continued. CHARGE DENIED A woman, aged 21. who faces a charge of keeping a brothel, denied the alleged offence. The woman, who at the request of counsel (Mr D. I. Jones), was granted interim suppression of her name, was remanded on bail to September 10 for the taking of depositions. The alleged offence was said to have taken place on the night of July 30. , Mr Jones entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of his client, ' (Before Judge Fraser) DAMAGE CHARGE A youth, aged 17, was further remanded on bail to September 5 on charges of
wilfully setting fire to a number of shirts, the property of Fanners and Hay-, wrights; Ltd, on June 16; and - wilful damage of. $784 to seven men’s suits,'?’and two pair's' of men’s?:.ttoiisers, belonging to the same firm, between May- 19 and ' June 16. .... ■-? ./?' The defendant, Grant Alan! Eagle, a salesman;, was re-, manded by consent? 1 under provisions of section’ 47a (2) ; (a) of the Criminal Justice! Act. During the' remand' period he 'is to undertake, psychiatric examination. |
