Fletcher’s to keep on at Gladstone
Greymouth reporter The factory of Fletcher Wobd Panels, Ltd, at Gladstone, near Greymouth, will continue to work. There will
be no redundancies, but a staff non-replacement programme has been adopted in the meantime, “as there is a need to lower the staff level very slightly,” according to a spokesman for ' the company yesterday.
The directors of the company met this week and decided that the plant would continue, and in addition that the existing equipment would be improved by way of a “moderate” investment and that surplus equipment from the company’s plywood factory in Christchurch would be moved to Gladstone and installed during the Christmas holidays.
It will not come into complete operation until March or April. A spokesman for the company, Mr G. Ogilvie, of Auckland, said that log contracts had been negotiated but had not been signed pending the decision by the di-< rectors.
Now that it had been decided to continue the enterprise, the contracts would be sealed.
